DIGEO - MOXI 2002
This is the TV interface for a digital video recorder for Paul Allen's cable companies that then became a stand alone unit that anyone could buy. It has won two Emmys'. This was designed for 640 x 480 resolution since High Definition was very new at the time. I worked on version 1 then I was in charge of the redesign vision and interaction for version 2. Believe it or not TV guide had patterns on any grid format to show tv programming, spelling a tv show, and clicking on a tv show and playing it directly. The company didn’t want to pay for any for these rights so we had to develop an award winning product around these tough design problems.
Hub page
The DVR box had multiple features like a built in DVD/CD player, photo gallery, and videophone. Therefore we needed an easy interface to access all programs.
Show info
When paused on a show card, the info about the show would animate out.
Info commercial and interaction
Paid Per View
The Pay Per View section where user could pay for movies or sporting events.
“TV - Guide”
TV Guide has a patent on showing TV shows in a grid so we needed to develop a different way to show tv shows by time
Photo Gallery
The DVR boxes included a Photo Gallery program where customers can upload their photos to their TV. Something that was very cool back in 2002.
Video Phone
The DVR box included an option for a videophone. Where you could call your friends and see them on your TV. Again something cool back then.
Version 3 Proposal
My creative director told only me to "go off on my own and redesign the experience anyway I wanted, except to keep center focus navigation." Therefore, I redesigned the functionality of the interface along with a new remote control to work seamlessly together. These are just wireframes of the new design and functionality.
Version 1 to 2
This is what I did to change version 1 to version 2 of the interface. I wasn't aloud to change much and had to do a lot of internal selling to win the executives over. In the end we did make the changes and produced an award winning design.

WELCOME MOVIE
This video was played when the user first started their box for V1 of the design. I wanted to do an emotional piece, instead of how to use the product video.
